Sports drinks contain lots of sugar, artificial flavours and colours, and not much nourishment. You can skip all of those bright coloured drinks in plastic bottles and make natural fruit Gatorade in your Vibe Blender instead. These replenishing electrolyte recovery drinks are made with 100% natural ingredients and are so much better for you and will give you all you need to get rehydrated and energised. A healthier alternative for post-workout hydration or when you’re recovering from an illness.
Gatorade and other sports recovery drinks have more of a purpose than just flavour, they’re designed to replenish, not just the water you’re missing but also essential minerals, known as electrolytes. It’s super easy to make them at home, all you really need is the right fruit flavour-to-water ratio and a little bit of good quality salt to balance out the minerals in your body.
Without artificial colouring, natural fruit Gatorade in a blender won’t look like the neon bottled stuff from the store, nor is it going to be as sweet, so feel free to add honey if that helps you or your family enjoy this all-natural blender version. Blended whole fruit drinks are also thicker and more energy dense than juice. For a completely pulp free version you can follow the straining method used in this detoxifying green juice.
The following fresh and delicious ingredients will replenish electrolytes naturally:
Coconut water - Coconut water contains all five essential minerals for the perfect electrolyte balance and on its own is better at keeping your body hydrated than any store-bought sports drink.
Lemon – is full of the mineral Potassium and vitamin C and adds a slight zing that nicely masks any subtle saltiness.
Fresh fruit – fresh juice is rich in vitamins and minerals and is a great way to start getting fluids back into your body. Choose sweet ripe fruit to get a good boost of healthy sugar plus the bonus natural real-fruit colouring.
Celtic Sea salt - High-quality salts typically contain upward of 60 trace minerals important for hydration. Table salt is pure sodium chloride and doesn’t have trace minerals, Celtic Sea salt is a great option because it is unrefined and full of natural minerals.
Honey - is full of vitamins and minerals and is an electrolyte powerhouse. Use maple syrup as a vegan alternative.
