Homemade Yogurt

Mixed berry compote is the perfect accompaniment for any homemade yogurt you wish. For am extra thick and creamy texture, we dripped dairy milk yogurt for an hour before serving. For a more luxurious probiotic berry experience, serve the compote with homemade crème fraiche, quark or cultured cream.

Sugar free compote

A quarter cup of sugar makes a dessert-like compote. If your berries are naturally super sweet you could halve the amount of sugar. For a sugar-free version, use honey or maple syrup. Start with 2 tablespoons and add more to taste.

Not just for yogurt!

Use this recipe if you want a quick berry sauce for pancakes, crepes, granola, and much much more. Mixed berry compote can be served warm or chilled.

4.   Add the sugar, orange juice, peel and cinnamon stick.
5.   Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cook, uncovered, for 5 minutes. Less time if the fruit is very ripe. You want the texture to be chunky and not jam.
5.   Combine cornflour with water in a small bowl and stir to make a slurry.
6.   Add to the saucepan and stir to combine. Continue to cook for 1 minutes until thickened.

7.   Remove from heat and let cool.
8.   Serve warm or chilled with your favourite homemade yogurt.
9.   If making ahead, store in the fridge in an airtight container until ready to serve. Berry compote will keep for up to 2 weeks.
